THE CITY LIBRARY


The roots of Cacak City Library reach to 1848 when the "Society for Reading of Serbian and Slav Newspapers" was founded. Existing for a century and a half the oldest Cacak cultural institution stopped and restarted working more than once and only since 1946 it has been operating without any break.

The libraby was named after the home poet Vladislav Petkovic Dis in 1998.

This institution is the central library for the Moravica region.

The holdings of the Library amount to about 120.000 units and in addition to the central library the branches in Preljina and Mrcajevci also operat. The rich stock of home books amounting to about 4.500 units, 60 titles of newsparers and approximately 30.000 units of non-book material represent a special value for the Library as well as the legacies of Milivoje Filipovic, Jovan Davidovic and the Frech pair Berte totalling to 10.000 books and other publications.
Starting in 1964 the Library has been organizing the poetic manifestation "The Dis Spring" and giving a worthy poetic award named after Dis. The Librarary has published about 100 books and other publications so far, issues the specialist journal "the Voice of the Library" and the newspaper "The Dis`s Spring" as well as the edition series "The Guest of the Spring", "The Currents", (the first poetic collection), "The Sundial", "The Home Bibliography", "The Home Library Springs". In addition to the Dis`s award the Library also gives the award Isailo A. Petrovic for the graphically best arranged bokk and the award "Danica Markovic" for the book of the year published in Cacak.
